Somasundaram Eye Hospital was started with the motive of providing all ophthalmic services under one roof at affordable cost to the people in and around Karur. We are the only hospital providing free OPD services every Sunday, every month, every year, every decade for the past 3 decades. We are providing free eye drops to all patients who come on every Thursday. School students, police personnel, nursing staff, and medical representatives are all treated on a free OPD basis on all days, 24×7, 365 days. We have been doing 2 free cataract phaco IOL surgeries for 2 patients every week totally free of cost.

Our Journey & Milestones
1993
Dr. S. Baskar founded Somasundaram Eye Hospital in fond remembrance of his father Mr. Somasundaram (Teacher, MHS School, Karur). Started small with limited staff, services, and free camps for the underprivileged.
2009
Upgraded hospital with modern facilities and achieved ISO certification.
2015
Expanded operation theatres and surgical capabilities to serve more patients.
2017
Dr. M. Santhosh took over hospital administration, elevating services to the next level.
2020
Dr. Sandhya Baskar joined, began pursuing NABH accreditation, ESI, and all insurance schemes to serve the community better.
2024
Dr. S. Vigneshwaran joined hands to continue ongoing services and community initiatives.
2025
Dr. Baskar Advanced LASIK Centre started, providing refractive surgeries for young adults (18–40 years) at affordable costs.
Each milestone reflects our dedication to providing accessible, high-quality eye care for all.
We have two well-established ophthalmic surgeons, Dr. Baskar and Dr. Sandhya Baskar. Dr. Baskar, the chief ophthalmology consultant, brings 25+ years of experience. Together with father-daughter duo and other visiting doctors, we cater to all ophthalmology needs of our patients.
